At around 3 a.m. Tuesday, officers responded to a home on Assisi Way for a report of a stolen vehicle. A description of the stolen vehicle, a Chevy pickup, was broadcast to all units, and moments later an officer spotted it traveling southbound on the Route 7 Connector.
The truck got onto I-95 south and pulled to a stop in front of the exit 14 off-ramp, police said. As the officer pulled behind the truck, it suddenly accelerated backwards into the front of the police car. The officer activated his lights and siren, but the truck fled, police said.
Due to the damage caused by the crash, the police cruiser was disabled and the officer lost sight of the stolen truck, police said. The officer sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash.
Additional officers responded to the area and saw the truck traveling on Flax Hill Road. They attempted to stop it, but the driver refused to pull over and drove directly at a marked police car, police said. The officer was able to swerve and avoid the oncoming truck.
A pursuit ensued, until the truck crashed into a parked car in the Rowayton Woods complex on Highland Avenue, police said. The suspect then fled from the truck. Officers chased the suspect on foot before losing sight of the suspect on Possum Circle, police said. A Westport Police K9 assisted with the search, but the suspect was not located.
The incident remains under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Norwalk Detective Bureau at (203) 854-3011.
